John C Dvorak Passed Away

Sadly monday 20 june 2026 John C Dvorak passed away at the age of 74, or actually 80! He turned out to be 6 years older than previously stated on his Wikipedia page. He sadly succumbed to complications due to his bypass surgery in march.

For over twenty years I read his columns. Listened to his appearances on This week in tech, the Cranky Geeks, DHUnplugged and above all No Agenda with Adam Curry. A very witty man, with loads of knowledge on just about every subject, but mainly wine and computers ;). And a story for just about any situation.

He’ll be greatly missed, it was very weird and emotional when he didn’t appear on the first No Agenda show 1888 last thursday. As Adam read his obituary, there wasn’t a dry eye in the trollroom! (which is the No Agenda IRC channel).

Norah Jones Is Playing Along with Mike Campbell

Not long after I posted about the Mike Campbell book, he appeared on Norah Jones’ most excellent podcast and they played a few tunes ;). He also shares some stories from the book. Go check it out!

This podcast is well worth it anyway, also to meet some new artists I wasn’t very familiar with before. Norah Jones is always great to listen to.

Secrets of the Lord of the Rings

SQPN SLOTR SQPN has launched a new podcast named ‘The Secrets of the Lord of the Rings‘. I haven’t listened to it yet, but it looks very promising, since their previous Secrets of (Harry Potter and Pirates of the Carribbean) were very interesting as well.

Tales of Heroes

Every now and then I also play the RTS game Company of Heroes. Or actually I enjoy watching replays from gamereplays.org more since I am not that good at it ;). A great show about the game is Tales of Heroes. It has an audio podcast and a video replay review part ! Especially Bridger’s enthusiasm is great ;). Podcast Priest

Everybody’s favorite priest, Father Roderick of the Daily Breakfast appeared monday night at the dutch late talk show Pauw en Witteman. For anyone who speaks dutch (it would make much sense if you dont know the language), the program can be viewed online at www.uitzendinggemist.nl.

Very nice appearance by the Podcasting Priest as he was called at this program, telling about how it all started and how he tries to appeal to the common podcast listeners, who dont have to be catholics to enjoy the program.

Podshow Plus

Last week on the 4th of july Podshow Plus went open beta. I was already part of the beta, got a golden ticket to access it through their devcast. And I only logged in twice. It’s layout and how things work is very cumbersome. They implemented some Ajax stuff on the site, but it was riddled with bugs at the time. I logged in again once it went live to the public and the bugs seems to have diminished, but the cumbersome interface remains :(. What is also very annoying is when you go to the podshow home page loud music starts blasting through your speakers and a truckload of commercials start flashing :(. Especially the Casino ones make it look like a cheap site (you know the ones you stumble upon when you mistype www.yahoo.com ;)).

Basically I am missing the whole point of podshow plus. I dont need their media player (which doesnt work properly on 2 of my systems btw) since I already have iTunes (or any other mp3 player will do just as well, probably better, their player ofcourse has an annoying ad on the bottom). And I certainly dont need the channel of your favourite podcasts, since not all podcasts are in there and I dont want one big feed making a mess of things.

Apparently I am not the only one who thinks this, got some nice reviews below.
